Commercial Solar PV + BESS Project
Ontario, CA
240.000 kW AC
Project Summary
Commercial solar permit and BIM coordination package integrating PV array information, BESS equipment, electrical equipment and conduit routing within an existing building environment.
Client Need
The project required coordination of a large commercial solar PV and BESS system within an existing three-story building environment. The goal was to clearly define PV/BESS equipment locations, electrical equipment and major conduit routes so the BIM representation and commercial permit documentation remained coordinated.
Challenge
The project involved 314 × 590W PV modules forming a 185.260 kW DC / 240.000 kW AC system, along with BESS equipment, a 600A solar load center and multiple electrical conduit routes. The main coordination challenge was maintaining practical equipment placement and clear routing between the roof-level PV system, electrical equipment, MCombiner PV, BESS and building interfaces, including large conduit requirements.
The PDF identifies a Renon MCombiner PV, Renon Power MPACK 233A BESS and 600A subpanel.
My Engineering Approach
I reviewed the project drawings, equipment information and BIM/model requirements, then coordinated the major PV, BESS and electrical equipment locations. I developed coordinated BIM views for equipment placement and conduit routing, checked the relationship between the roof-level PV system and electrical equipment, and incorporated project revisions into the final documentation.
Engineering Decisions
Key coordination decisions focused on keeping equipment locations practical, maintaining clear relationships between PV/BESS equipment and electrical infrastructure, and representing major conduit routes consistently across the project documentation.
- Equipment and BESS placement coordination
- PV-to-equipment and equipment-to-BESS conduit routing
- Consistency between BIM views and permit documentation
